Friday, September 15, 2017 – Atlanta and Cirque du Soleil

It’s finally crunch time!  Everything that needs to be done, needs to be done before about three this afternoon, since we have Cirque du Soleil tickets for “Luzia”!  There’s the usual running around to the bank, the grocery, the drug store and the post office.  That last one was pretty strange!  Ginger needed to mail a book to Betsy in Tampa.  When it was finally our turn at the counter, the postal person said the addresses needed to be switched in position.  Even though they said “To” and “From” and the “From” was in GA, while the “To” was in Florida, he didn’t quite get it!!  Once we got him straighten out, I asked him if I could put a mail hold on my Odessa mail.   My post office is still closed, so I couldn’t do it there. He assured me that I could do it online.  Turns out that’s not true!  He was zero for two!  Your tax dollars at work!

Getting foreign currency at the bank.
Amy came over for lunch.  Seeing her is always such a treat!  And Nick was able to come home for the show.  It looked like he might not be able to, so that was a pleasant surprise, too!

We tried off and on all day to check into our flight, to little avail.  We did learn that there won’t be a ticket agent at the airport until 4:00 a.m. and our flight leaves at 6:15.  Sure hope that’s enough time, although I don’t suppose there will be many people in the security line at that hour!

Ben, drove Ginger, Nick and I downtown for the most amazing Cirque!  I highly recommend it!  To prove the point, I was so enraptured that I didn’t even take photos because I didn’t want to dilute the experience!

Before the show Ginger and I each tried a new beer!  Hers was “Fu Manbrew” and I had “Blind Pirate”.

This hat so reminded us of Stu's jester's hat from days of yore!

Could you guess that the show is set in Mexico?

After the show we met Amy and Randy for Indian food at Aachi’s, a really great restaurant the kids knew about.  The portions are huge and Ben will have lots of leftovers to feast on while we’re gone – at least for a couple of days!

We’re planning to leave the house at 3:00 tomorrow morning, so this is all there is folks!  Sweet dreams!

  1. Try again to put a hold on your mail online. We normally do that when we travel. The hurricane may have upset things, but Tampa seems to be recovering.

    1. The website for the Odessa post office has a list of things you can do on line and another for things that have to happen on-site. Holding mail is in the on-site column. And as of yesterday, my post office was still closed due to the power outage. My last text from TECO said the cause was still unknown!! It will work out one way or another! When the box overflows, they'll have to hold the rest! :)

    2. So true! But I'm like Betsy in that I do this online. Your post office needs to get with the times!

  2. We'll look for Luzia here. You know how we enjoy the shows. Would you want to see it again?

    1. You'll love it!! I'm not sure if I'd see it again; there are so many wonderful things to see for the first time! :)

    2. Doesn’t look like it’s coming here. Darn. As for the post office, we have yellow cards we fill out & place in our mailbox when we go on vacation - stop mail from one date to the restart date. Can you use one of those next time?

    3. I could have done that if the post office had been open! But then I wouldn't have needed to put it in my box! The hurricane played havoc with my neighborhood. The bottom line is that, if my home-made card didn't do the trick, then my mail soon overflowed the box at the gate, and they will have had to hold it anyway! It will all work out. I've had them hold my mail for years and never had a problem.
